Imagine a world where you were able to see how makeup would look on your face before you had to go to the store? Believe it or not – technology for this exists. I would like to focus more on ModiFace for my research topic. ModiFace is an augmented reality that is used in the beauty industry to enable people to try on their makeup through their mobile device. I became interested in this topic when I found out stores like Sephora used this AI feature. I'm a huge fan of Sephora and I was always wondering how they're able to detect which foundation or concealer will match my skin color with just one test. I would like to find out more about how this new technology operates and how the programming works that allows facial recognition to be perceived. In order to learn more about this program, I will have to look into its background. I will dive into the financial details – who is funding the start up for this invention? Who is the creator of this application and is it accessible for everyone? Does it cost money to use this application? Does it recognize all skins tones, or does it have a reputation like facial recognition software to be discriminatory? I will research ModiFace on beauty websites, Apple Inc., and Yahoo Finance to try to uncover all details about this technology and where it originates. The main website for ModiFace is one place I will refer to throughout my studies. I will also look at other websites in relation to the beauty industry, such as L'Oreal to find out more information about what companies incorporate ModiFace into their business model and how it affects their revenue.

Hi Wanling!
ReplyDeleteSuch an intriguing topic choice! I too have noticed these cool AI features when shopping for cosmetics at Sephora and think its such a brilliant, fun feature that they added which would be great for their marketing as well! Also, I believe Snapchat and Instagram use similar tools as they scan faces and the GEO filters allow users to see what they would like with some of the retail products. Very interesting topic, good luck!

Hi Wanling,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that augmented reality in beauty industry is growing stronger nowadays with technology being highly developed. Augmented reality in beauty industry not only happens in beauty stores like Sephora, it happens in people's daily experiences with beauty. Almost every social media app that allows the use of camera has an application of augmenting your beauty, and this application enables people to look better without washing their faces or putting make up on. The more important aspect is that it provides interaction between people and their distant close friends.
Hi Wanling,
ReplyDeleteThis is such an interesting idea you've brought up. I think this is great for people who have a difficult time finding their perfect shade of foundation, concealer, powder etc. They wouldn't have to go through the hassle of buying shades and that don't work out and having to go back to stores and return them. I definitely want to look more into ModiFace and learn more about augmented reality in the beauty industry.
